My Background
I have been involved in fitness and health care for the past 30 years. Initially I was trained as a classical jazz dancer with the Hal Mischka Dance Company in Toronto. Prior to that I was a competitive runner, high jumper and swimmer all of which led me to a career as a fitness instructor. I obtained my fitness instructor's certification through the YM/YWCA and subsequently worked as a fitness instructor at a variety of institutions in Uxbridge and Port Perry, Ontario. Next I opened my own fitness club which ran successfully for 10 years also in Port Perry. During that time I collaborated on a fitness book with Dr. Roger Turner, entitled "Body Culture".
In 2000 I purchased a Curves franchise in Stratford, Ontario and quickly realized how the Curves concept was able to reach and assist more people than individual fitness classes. The impressive Curves approach led me to purchase an additional three franchises in Southwestern Ontario. While owner of the four Curves and teaching the weight loss classes, I soon realized that teaching others about health and nutrition was my true passion. My belief is that good nutrition coupled with exercise is the best way to lose weight permanently and maintain a healthy life-style.
From 2006 to 2009 I studied nutrition through the Alive Academy of Natural Health which is based in Burnaby, British Columbia. I qualified for the Registered Nutritional Consulting Practitioner Diploma in 2010.
Today I operate a nutritional consulting service from my home in Collingwood, Ontario specializing in the needs of the 55 plus demographic.
